Upon attending Stanford University and University of Oregon Medical School, Charles began practicing Orthopedic Surgery in Southern California.


His sub-specialty interest was in neurological correction of disorders of the spine.  Charles was a surgeon for 22 years, 12 of which were as Chief of Spine Deformity Services at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital USC Medical School.


His field of expertise included treatment of neck and low back pain, joint pain and immobility from arthritis, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, cervical and lumbar disc herniation, spinal fractures and spinal disease.


He dedicated over half of his time to surgery of Jehovah Witnesses, pioneering the development of bloodless surgery for patients not interested in blood transfusions.


He completed over 50 scoliosis operations and 250 total hip replacements operations without blood transfusions of any kind.


Along with his traditional surgical practice, Charles assisted thousands of patients to live without pain and physical limitations due to orthopedic injuries and deformities.
